In 1966 the Cuban Cohiba was created exclusively for Castro’s personal use and dispensation to fortunate foreign diplomats. Publicly available since 1982, Cubatabacos Cohiba launched the Siglo Series in 1992. Siglo, “or century,” is a series of cigars commemorating the centuries of Spanish colonization following Columbus’ landing in the New World. Each cigar in this series is larger than its predecessor, symbolizing the growth and history of the Cuban people. The Siglo series are full-bodied cigars with hints of coffee and pepper, a general strong earthen tone, and a slightly sweet finish. These cigars burn slowly, and series one through three draw a little more stiffly than the larger four, five and six series. Interestingly, the Siglo series are manufactured with smooth end caps that lack the signature twist typical to Cohibas.
